Quartz (Silica)
Quartz is one of the most common minerals in the Earth’s crust. Quartz is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of silica. As a mineral name, Quartz refers to a specific chemical compound (silicon dioxide, or silica, SiO2), having a specific crystalline form (hexagonal). It is found in all forms of rock: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. High grade metamorphic quartz rocks cover more than 90% of the island; Sri Lanka.
Quartz crystal is found in many countries and Sri Lanka is popularly known for being one of the worlds producers of natural quartz crystals.

Silica Grits
MQI produces high purity Silica(Quartz) Grits which contain an Si02 percentage of >99% purity, coming from our very own mines in the country
The Silica Grits produced are currently primarily used as a raw material in manufacturing EMC powders for the semiconductor industry. We also cater to few other high end industries.
The standard particle size of MQI’s Silica(Quartz) Grits offered is between 1mm – 5mm or 1mm – 10mm. We are also able to offer other sizes.

Kaolin
Kaolin is a rock from which the clay mineral kaolinite is derived. Kaolinite is a layered silicate clay mineral which forms from the chemical weathering of feldspar or other aluminum silicate minerals. The Kaolin in Sri Lanka is usually white, with occasionally a red color impurity due to iron oxide, or blue or brown from other minerals.
Kaolin has, in places, been derived from well-stratified argillaceous sedimentary rocks with more than 50% of their grains of a particle size of less than 0.062 mm and strongly enriched in phyllosilicates.
Today MQI’s Kaolin bring critical properties to a host of end applications ranging from ceramics, porcelain tableware, paper, paints and cosmetics.

Feldspar
Feldspar is the name given to a group of minerals distinguished by the presence of alumina and silica (SiO2) in their chemistry. This group includes aluminum silicates of soda, potassium, or lime.
It is the single most abundant mineral group on Earth. They account for an estimated 60% of exposed rocks, as well as soils, clays, and other unconsolidated sediments, and are principal components in rock classification schemes.
The minerals included in this group are the orthoclase, microcline and plagioclase feldspars.
